At WCCA, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunities they need to succeed. We help people build financial stability, improve self-esteem, become self-reliant, develop personal responsibility and contribute to the community. We provide the services, education and advocacy to create these opportunities. Our programs include: Head Start and Early Head Start, Weatherization, Housing Assistance, Family Self-Sufficiency, Transportation and Senior Services. WCCA's contributions to quality of life in Henderson and Transylvania Counties include:
Moving Families Out of Poverty …Over the past 40 years, WCCA has helped thousands of families achieve long term economic independence.
Improving Quality of Life …Knowing that their children are safe and happy in WCCA's high quality child care programs; parents can pursue education and job training. With WCCA's rental assistance, they can afford decent housing and move toward home ownership and well-paid employment. Each family that succeeds provides significant financial savings to the community.
Economic Benefits …Each year, WCCA brings more than $8,000,000 into the local community in federal and state funds, funding the most pressing local needs. This government funding is matched by $$1,000,000 in local support. WCCA employs 135 people and serves 8,000 families each year. WCCA has the flexibility to choose where need is greatest in our community and adjusts to meet changing local needs.
Savings for the Community …Operating numerous programs out of one agency allows for considerable savings, particularly in financial and administrative management. WCCA uses just 6% of its operating budget for administrative support. This means that 94% of funds directly benefit low-income families.
THE NEW HEAD START EDUCATION CENTER

The new center provides four new classrooms, with 16 new spaces for infants and toddlers and provides More-At-Four services for 30 preschool children. A large community room is located at the south end of the Head Start building. This room is multi- purposed, serving as an indoor playroom for the children during inclement weather and a meeting room for the community.
THE NEW PROGRAM SERVICES CENTER
This new building houses client services on the first floor. The reception area includes a children's play area and comfortable seating. Private meeting rooms are located to the right of the waiting area. The first floor also includes offices for the Client Services, Section 8 Housing and Head Start staff, plus a staff workroom and space to accommodate a new internship program for undergraduate and graduate students in social work. An elevator provides easy access to the upper floor, which houses administrative staff and a meeting room that accommodates up to 40 people. This room is used primarily for client orientation and classes on financial literacy, home buying, money management, credit, insurance and investing.
WCCA LAUNCHES PUBLIC AWARENENSS AND SUPPORT CAMPAIGN
In an effort to raise community awareness and support, Western Carolina Community Action, Inc. (WCCA) has launched its first fundraising campaign. The purpose of WCCA is to assist low-income disadvantaged people in the community to reach their full potential through quality services and advocacy. With the recent plant closings, the rise in poverty, and cutbacks in funding, we must work harder to serve all who look to us for help. Monies raised through private donations provide additional resources to continue our mission. Financial support from our local area demonstrates that our community is solidly behind us when we seek corporate and foundation funding, making every dollar stretch further. An investment in WCCA is an investment in the future of our community.
